The University of Zambia Student Union (UNZASU) President, Mwato Kabaso has called on all media houses to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in their reporting.
Mr Kabaso’s call comes after allegations circulating in some media outlets suggesting that the University is facing a shortage of desks and that students are being forced to sit on the floor.
In a statement released by UNZASU Secretary for Information and Publicity, Kaluba Kaluba, today, Mr Kabaso emphasized that the claims were unfounded and did not reflect the current state of facilities at the institution.
“Information is powerful, it has the capacity to lift the image of an institution or unjustly damage it,” he said.
“We encourage all media platforms to verify facts before publishing and to engage directly with us whenever clarification is needed.”
Mr Kabaso stressed the need for accuracy, verification and responsible communication, especially on matters that directly affect the reputation of the University.
He reaffirmed UNZASU’s commitment to ensuring a conducive learning environment for all students, reiterating that the Union will continue working closely with University management to maintain and improve available infrastructure.
Mr Kabaso also assured the public that UNZASU remains committed to transparency and open dialogue, adding that the Union will continue to provide timely updates and factual information to prevent the spread of misinformation.
