A 26-Year-old man in Chama District of Eastern Province who had gone fishing in the Luangwa River has been found dead in a grass-thatched shelter near the riverbank.

The deceased has been identified as Isaac Sakala of Ndombo Village in Chief Chifunda’s Chiefdom.

Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred between 19th and 20th November 2025.

According to brief facts of the matter, Sakala had gone fishing on 17th November 2025 in the company of three friends whose names had not yet been provided by broadcast time.

On 20th November 2025, after completing their fishing activities, the three friends decided to return home, leaving Sakala behind. He reportedly chose to remain at the river, saying he had not caught enough fish.

On 21st November 2025, other community members who had gone fishing discovered his lifeless body inside one of the grass-thatched shelters along the riverbank.

One of the fishermen recognized him and rushed back to inform relatives in Ndombo Village.

The body was later transported to the village, where burial was conducted the same day at around 14:50 hours.
