Two children, aged three and six, have drowned after being swept away by a strong current in the Magoye Stream in Monze, Southern Province.
The children fell into the water after the ground on which they were playing on the stream bank collapsed.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer, Moono Namalongo, confirmed the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
Mr. Namalongo identified the deceased as Christina Hamayuwa, aged three, and Choolwe Mweemba, aged six, both female.
He explained that the two children, together with another young girl, had gone to the stream to play and watch the water flow.
Mr. Namalongo said that while they were standing on the bank, the soil gave way, sending all three children into the water. One child, however, managed to survive.
He added that the surviving child ran back to the village to alert elders, who, together with family members, later retrieved the bodies from the stream.
