The patient who was allegedly beaten by some medical personnel and security officers at Chipata Central Hospital has officially reported the matter to the police.

Both the victim and Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba have confirmed the development.

The victim accuses hospital staff and security guards of assaulting him while he sought urgent medical attention for severe pain.

He rushed to Chipata Central Hospital on Thursday after experiencing intense pain and was attended to by a doctor within minutes.

He has since written to the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ), lodging a complaint over what he describes as unprofessional conduct by the accused medical personnel.

Mr. Mweemba told Breeze FM News that the victim is alleged to have been assaulted by two medical staff and one security officer at the hospital.

He said investigations are underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, efforts to obtain a comment from Chipata Central Hospital officials have been unsuccessful, as multiple attempts to reach them have gone unanswered.

On Friday last week, Breeze FM aired a News story where some medical personnel at Chipata Central Hospital and security officers allegedly ganged up to beat a patient.
