Police in Western Province have arrested one suspect and recovered six head of cattle following a reported case of stock theft in Mongu District.
The incident was reported to Namushakende Police Post under Mongu Central Police Station December 12, 2025, at around 08:15 hours.
Western Province Commissioner of Police Rae Hamoonga said in a statement that the theft occurred between 22:00 hours on December 11 and 06:00 hours on December 12, 2025.
The Complaint Malindi Munalula told officers that he had secured the cattle at about 18:00 hours and later conducted a physical check, confirming all animals were present. However, upon checking again the following morning, he discovered that six cattle were missing, with footprints believed to belong to two individuals seen around the kraal.
The stolen cattle comprised four oxen and two oxen with an estimated total value of K48,000.
Following the report, police acted on intelligence that three individuals were seen driving six cattle in the bush near the Belgravia area close to Tazama in Mongu District.
Officers moved in and apprehended one suspect, identified as 42-year-old Given Siyenge Kamwengo, who was found in possession of all six stolen animals. Two other suspects escaped and a manhunt has since been launched.
