‎‎Nkana Member of Parliament Binwell Mpundu has strongly condemned the passage of Bill 7, describing the entire process as flawed, illegal and dangerous for Zambia’s future.

‎‎Mpundu argued that the Constitutional Court had already declared the bill null and void and deferred it to the people for wider consultation, a process which he says was ignored by the UPND government.‎‎

In an interview, He explained that submissions collected by the technical committee from citizens across the country were meant to form the basis of the bill that Members of Parliament would later debate.

‎‎However, Mpundu accused the government of disregarding the will of the people by reintroducing a deferred bill into Parliament, an action he described as a serious violation of constitutional procedure.‎‎

While acknowledging that delimitation in itself is a necessary and progressive exercise, the Nkana lawmaker said the UPND government has created uncertainty by failing to disclose the names of constituencies earmarked for delimitation.

‎‎He expressed concern over the proposed division of about 70 constituencies, stressing that Zambians remain in the dark about how and where these changes will take place.

‎‎Mpundu warned that passing Bill 7 is the worst thing to have happened to Zambia, cautioning that its implications could have far-reaching and damaging consequences in the future.
