Two Die in Chikankata Lightning StrikeBy Julius SakalaTwo people have died, while two others have sustained injuries, after being struck by lightning in Chikankata District of Southern Province.

The incident occurred yesterday, December 14, 2025, at around 15:00 hours in Ng’andu Habeenzu Village, in Chief MWENDA’s area.

Southern Province Police Commanding Officer, MOONO NAMALONGO, confirmed the incident, stating that all the victims were members of the same family.

Mr. NAMALONGO identified the deceased as LUSHOMO MWEENE, aged 28, and JOSEPHINE KALONGA, aged eight.

The survivors have been identified as JENNIPHER MOOYA, aged 60, and INNOCENT KALONGA, aged six.

They are currently admitted to Chikankata Mission Hospital.

Mr. NAMALONGO said that on the material day, the four victims were seated inside their house when it started raining.

He added that lightning later struck the house, causing it to catch fire and resulting in burn injuries to all four occupants, two of whom died on the spot.
