Veteran broadcaster and media executive Kenneth Maduma has died. He passed away on 14 December 2025, bringing to an end a distinguished career that helped shape Zambia’s broadcasting landscape over several decades.‎‎

Maduma was born in Durban in 1967. Growing up during the formative years of the country’s communication sector, he developed a passion for broadcasting at a time when radio was the primary source of news and information for most Zambians.‎‎

Maduma rose to national prominence through his long and dedicated service at the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation ZNBC.‎‎

He served as a news anchor, broadcaster, and later Director of Programmes, becoming one of the most recognisable and trusted voices on Zambian radio and television.‎‎

Popularly known as “Ken Dumz,” Maduma was admired for his calm, authoritative delivery and unwavering commitment to journalistic professionalism.

‎‎His voice became synonymous with credibility, particularly during major national events and news bulletins.

‎‎Beyond his on-air role, Maduma played a critical part in newsroom leadership and programme development at ZNBC.

‎‎As Director of Programmes, he helped shape content standards and mentored many young journalists and broadcasters, several of whom later became leading figures in Zambia’s media industry.‎‎

His contribution extended beyond broadcasting, as he also served Zambia in diplomatic and public service roles, further cementing his reputation as a dedicated servant of the nation.

‎‎In his later years, Maduma reduced his public appearances. Despite this, he remained a respected elder in the media fraternity, often acknowledged as a pioneer who laid the foundation for modern broadcasting in Zambia.‎‎

Kenneth Maduma died on 14 December 2025, prompting an outpouring of tributes from journalists, broadcasters, former colleagues, and the general public.

‎‎Many have described him as a trailblazer whose voice and leadership defined an era of Zambian broadcasting.‎‎

He leaves behind a rich legacy of excellence, mentorship, and public service. His contribution to Zambia’s media industry will continue to inspire generations of broadcasters to come.
