A 30-YEAR-OLD man of Mpongwe District has been sentenced to life in jail for brutally murdering his wife over suspicions of adultery.
The Ndola High Court heard that on April 26, 2025, Justin Kolala murdered his wife, Purity Kapambwe.
At the time, the couple were on separation.
According to court records, Kolala, who wanted to see the child the couple shared, went to the church where the child and his wife were said to be, but was only able to see them hours later.
The court heard that as the two stood talking, Kolala’s sister heard a bang behind her and, upon turning, she saw that the victim had been struck on the head with a stick.
Kolala fled the scene while the victim collapsed to the ground with the baby strapped to her back.
In passing sentence, Ndola High Court Judge Daniel Musonda said one of the key witnesses was the convict’s own sibling, who had no reason to falsely implicate him in the murder of his wife.
In mitigation, Kolala pleaded for leniency, stating that he was a first offender.
Judge Musonda said it was unfortunate that the couple’s children would suffer, as their mother had died and their father would spend his life in prison.
