A 27-YEAR-OLD Nyau dancer has allegedly been murdered by his older brother in Sinda District after a misunderstanding ensued during a gathering for masquerades at their shrine called Dambwe.
Isaac Mwale was allegedly hit with a stick by his older brother, Sinoya Banda, of Pandala village, on Saturday between 18:00 hours and 19:00 hours.
Eastern Province police commanding officer Robertson Mweemba said the two brothers went to Dambwe, during which they started quarrelling, prompting Mwale to return home.
Mr Mweemba said a group of about five dancers pursued Mwale to his residence in an attempt to take him back to Dambwe, but his mother intervened.
The five returned to the shrine but later returned to Mwale’s house in the company of his older brother.
He said Banda hit his younger brother on the forehead with a stick, after which he fainted for about 15 minutes.
“When he gained consciousness, he asked for water to be poured on his head.
He never walked and that was how he was taken to Chaitaika Rural Health Centre, from where he was referred to Nyanje Mission Hospital.
