Heavy rains have washed away culverts at two points along the Great East Road in Rufunsa District, disrupting traffic and raising safety concerns.

Engineers from the Road Development Agency –RDA- have been dispatched to the affected sections and have commenced backfilling works to restore the road.

One of the damaged sections is located about 25 kilometres from the Luangwa Bridge at an area known as CHANSANJE along the Great East Road.

LUSAKA Province Minister, SHEAL MULYATA, has appealed to motorists approaching from both directions to exercise patience and caution as government works urgently to address the situation.

Ms. MULYATA, who is also RUFUNSA Member of Parliament, said an ACROW bridge will be installed at the affected site to enable the resumption of traffic flow.

She further said the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit –DMMU- is on the ground providing assistance, as several households have been affected by flooding.
