A significant ruling has been handed down by the subordinate court in Kitwe where a woman has been convicted of two counts of dèfilement involving male minors under the age of sixteen.
The accused, who had shared a bedroom with one of the victims, faced charges after compelling evidence revealed her unlawful s£xual encounters with two boys, manipulated and exploited over time.
Court proceedings uncovered that the offender utilized digital media to groom the minors. Initially, she showed them age appropriate comedies, but gradually progressed to p0rn0graphic content, encouraging them to mimic the actions depicted.
Medical evidence and witness testimonies confirmed that both boys were under sixteen at the time of the incidents.
In the aftermath of the conviction, the case has been escalated to the High Court for sentencing, as subordinate courts do not possess the authority to impose the statutory penalties for defilement, which, under Section 138(1) of the Penal Code, carries a prison sentence of not less than fifteen years and may extend to life imprisonment.
