Water supply in Lundazi District has been disrupted following heavy rains that caused flooding, which submerged the Eastern Water and Sanitation Company (EWSC) Lundazi Water Treatment Plant.
EWSC Assistant Public Relations Officer, Caren Mbewe, says the flooding occurred yesterday between 04:00 and 07:00 hours, resulting in the complete submersion of the treatment plant.
Mrs. Mbewe says the incident led to an immediate halt in water production operations, affecting all customers across Lundazi District.
She says the company has since engaged relevant stakeholders to ensure the situation is resolved as quickly as possible.
Mrs. Mbewe says the company is urgently exploring alternative water sources as a short-term measure to help ease the situation while restoration works continue.
She has urged affected residents to remain calm and to ration any water they have stored.
Residents have also been advised to observe proper hygiene and safety measures as they seek alternative water sources during the disruption.
Mrs. Mbewe has assured the public that updates will be provided as progress is made toward restoring normal water supply.
This is contained in a press statement made available to the media.
