On December 31, 2025, the DEC issued a summon to Archbishop Alick Banda to appear before investigators today, January 5.

Shortly before Archbishop Banda walked to DEC officers in the company of sympathisers, Mass was held in his honour.

Walking from the Cathedral of the Child Jesus in Lusaka to DEC officers, the Archbishop and team were briefly stopped at RDA — ZAMCOM offices, by a horde of Police officers, whose leader requested that only a few people proceeds with the Archbishop for interrogations.

When this was said, resistance arose. Some faithfuls sat on the tarmac, others sang songs of solidarity.

As this unfolded, Government Road on which the Road Development Agency – RDA is situated was blocked, with some vehicles failing to drive through the crowd.

On realizing the inconvenience this may have been to other road users, Police officers began dispersing the crowd, somewhat firmly polite.

In the process, some members of the Catholic Church were picked up as detailed in the images.

Efforts to get a comment on whether the apprehended faithfuls remain in Police custody or not prove fulltile as the Police Spokesman Godfrey Chilabi’s line has been going unanswered.

Meanwhile the DEC has issued a statement stating that Archbishop Alick Banda has been formally warned and cautioned His Grace Dr. Banda over alleged unlawful possession of a Toyota Hilux registration number ALF 7734, a property of the Zambia Revenue Authority – ZRA.

DEC further shares that Dr. Banda has opted to remain silent when granted an opportunity to explain how he obtained the said Hilux.
