As a move to drastically change Zambia’s political scenes even before the general elections that will take place in 13th August 2026, a new move has been initiated to establish a political committee that will help consult on how to establish a new government.

This move by citizens has been aimed at bringing on board competent members of a new cabinet, individuals who have very vital experiences that will help bring about a governance style that takes into account merit, togetherness, and development of the nation at large.Below are details of this move, its requirements, key assignments, and members of a possible new cabinet that will help change Zambia’s politicking and economic fortunes.

Joining the Political CommitteeThe political committee is designed to lead consultations that could pave the way for an alternative government, ensuring that Zambia’s leadership reflects the will and needs of its people. To serve on this committee, individuals must meet stringent criteria to guarantee integrity and capability:Must be a Zambian citizen.

Must Hold a Grade 12 certificate or higher qualification.

Must Provide a traceable Curriculum Vitae (CV) demonstrating relevant experience.Must Submit a clear criminal record certificate obtained from the Zambia Police Service.

Must show seriousness of interest in Zambian Politics without affiliations with political parties.

By taking this impartial stand, it can be guaranteed that each member of the committee will work strictly in the interests of their nation, unbiased by loyalty to a particular party. This move emphasizes that Zambia’s government resembles a corporation, of which its citizens are owners, and its success relies on its “employees.” Those employees are leaders handpicked by its people.

Building Consensus and StrategyThe activities of the committee revolve around six major tasks, which address the political needs of the day in preparation for the united and effective government during the run-up to the elections of August 2026.

Firstly, Consulting with Opposition Leaders , Committee members will engage current opposition leaders in crucial discussions. A key question will be asked: If a particular opposition leader does not win the 13 August 2026 elections, is he/she willing to serve as ministers while staying in his/her party? This consultation aims to reduce divides and encourage experienced leaders to help with national governance, regardless of the perceived election results. It may promote stability and expertise in cabinet roles. Secondary Form a United Opposition Alliance with a “Guaranteed Cabinet” Model A key task at hand is convincing the Zambians and members of the opposition about the benefits of the 2025 constitution amendment. The initiative stands for a balanced view, seeking to find positives in reforms amidst criticism.

Instead of fragmented opposition parties fielding multiple presidential candidates (which dilutes votes and leads to ruling party dominance), consolidate around one unified presidential candidate. The remaining key opposition figures can position themselves as “designated ministers” in a shadow cabinet, campaigning on their specific policy contributions rather than a full presidential bid. This bypasses the conventional requirement that ministers must win parliamentary seats by leveraging the new nominated and PR seats as entry points to Parliament and thus to cabinet roles.

These changes will allow a presidential candidate to appoint cabinet members without worrying about securing parliamentary seats, making government formation easier after the 13 August 2026 elections. It is important to note that no leader has an automatic right to the presidency, echoing the idea that “you can’t give life to yourself, but those around you can.” It stresses the importance of others’ opinions, respecting democratic processes, and avoiding self-imposition.
