HOME Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu says the police are working to ensure that the by-election in Chawama is peaceful. Last month, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) set January 15, 2026, as the date for the Chawama constituency parliamentary by-election. This was after the Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti declared the Chawama seat vacant following the continued absence of the member of parliament, Tasila Lungu. Commenting on the security of the by-elections set for January 15, Tuesday, Mwiimbu said the police would ensure that all constituencies with by-elections had peace and security.

“I want to commend all the political players in the Chawama by-elections for maintaining peace and order. This is unprecedented.” He said
