POLICE in Chama District have arrested a 34-year-old man for allegedly inserting a cooking stick into his wife’s private part on suspicion that she was dating another man.
Eastern Province police commanding officer Robertson Mweemba said the gender-based violence (GBV) survivor sustained a painful and bleeding private part, a swollen left arm and thigh, and bruises on both feet, as a cooking stick and slaps are alleged to have been inflicted on her by John Chibangu.
Mr Mweemba said on Thursday last week, the woman asked for permission from her husband to visit her parents, of which he granted her request.
“She spent four days and got back to her house on Tuesday this week, and upon arrival the husband started accusing her of having an affair with another man.
“The same argument escalated and led the suspect to start beating her and also inserted a cooking stick into her private parts. She sustained injuries as stated,” he said.
Mr Mweemba said the victim is currently admitted at Chama District Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
He said the suspect was apprehended and detained in police custody while a medical report form was issued to his wife.
Mr Mweemba said the suspect will appear in court after he is formally charged and arrested.
