Over 600 families in Bweengwa area of Monze District have been left homeless following heavy rains that flooded their houses.
One of the affected residents, Bridget Kaunga, has confirmed that she lost 23 goats and an unknown number of chickens after floodwaters swept through the area.
Kaunga says she has been left devastated, as most of her belongings were washed away and her house remains submerged.
She has appealed to government and well-wishers to come to their aid, saying the affected families have nowhere to start from after losing their homes and livelihoods.
Meanwhile, Bweengwa Constituency Member of Parliament, Michelo Kasauta, has expressed sadness over the situation and sympathized with the affected families.
Monze District Commissioner, Mwanza Malambo, has assured residents that government, through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU), will urgently intervene to save lives and provide assistance.
Malambo disclosed that no lives have been lost so far and confirmed that the matter has already been reported to the provincial authorities for further action.
