June 15, 2026 | Matero, Lusaka

More than 3,000 residents packed Matero Community Hall during a combined constituency engagement involving Muchinga Ward 28 and Matero Ward 32, as UPND aspiring Member of Parliament Alexander Mumba Sakala unveiled his vision for the future of the constituency.

The turnout, which filled the venue to capacity and drew residents from different parts of Matero, has become one of the major talking points in the constituency ahead of the August 13 General Elections.

Addressing the enthusiastic gathering, Sakala outlined a development blueprint centred on youth empowerment, job creation, infrastructure development, improved sanitation and support for small businesses.

He said Matero deserves leadership that delivers practical solutions and creates opportunities capable of transforming lives and uplifting communities.

“Our focus must be on development that improves lives, creates jobs and gives hope to our youths. Matero deserves leadership that delivers solutions and brings communities together,” Sakala said.

Residents responded positively to the message, with many expressing optimism about the future of the constituency and welcoming the emphasis on development and service delivery.

Political observers noted that attracting more than 3,000 people to a constituency engagement demonstrates a high level of public interest and participation, particularly for a parliamentary candidate. The turnout has fuelled discussion among supporters who believe the meeting reflected growing confidence in Sakala’s development agenda.

In a notable show of grassroots mobilisation, Matero campaign manager and strong mobiliser Nawa Nawa was also actively on the ground, playing a key role in putting structures in place and coordinating efforts to ensure the duo delivers success and secures victory in Matero. His hard work and organisational strength were widely noted by supporters as crucial to the growing momentum behind the campaign.

For many attendees, the event was not merely a political gathering but an opportunity to engage with proposals aimed at addressing employment, infrastructure and community development challenges affecting Matero.

As campaigns continue to gather momentum, supporters argue that the turnout sends a strong signal about the level of interest surrounding the Matero parliamentary race. They contend that if a constituency meeting can attract thousands of residents around a development message, it demonstrates the significance voters are placing on leadership, vision and the future direction of the constituency.

The meeting concluded with residents calling for continued engagement and sustained development efforts, as attention increasingly turns to the choices that will shape Matero’s future in the years ahead.
