ZAMBIA REMEMBERS CHILUBA

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says second republican president FREDERICK CHILUBA will be remembered for the courageous role he played in liberalising the economy.

President HICHILEMA, who was speaking at the 11th memorial of Dr. CHILUBA, said Dr. CHILUBA will also be remembered for championing democracy and for declaring Zambia as a Christian nation.

He further said that his government has emulated some of the policies of the MMD administration.

He said among them is the fostering of unity. The Head of State said his cabinet is a reflection of what Dr. CHILUBA did when he became president.

President HICHILEMA further noted that the MMD managed the debt crisis then and that the UPND administration is determined to do the same as the country is on the path of restructuring its debt.

And former Vice President ENOCK KAVINDELE said Dr. CHILUBA was a leader who wanted to empower Zambians.

Mr. KAVINDELE thanked President HICHILEMA for the support and encouraged him to continue on the path of seeking peace and unity in Zambia and Africa as late president CHILUBA did during his tenure.

And Chairperson of the Memorial Committee CHAPA CHIKAMBA thanked Government for recognising freedom fighters and said it is important that true history is written.
