IN a tragic turn of events, a man of Mporokoso of Northern Province has woken up to the lifeless bodies of his wife and two daughters in unclear circumstances.
It is suspected however,that the deceased person’s may have consumed poison.
According to the Dalous Mwansa, he was not home when the incident occurred and just happened to awake next to the lifeless bodies of his family.
Prior to this, he explained that he tried to wake his wife up in the night, but she failed to get up as she complained of a stomach ache.
According to him, the three are believed to have consumed some okra (delele) and other vegetables locally known as “Kalembula” with caterpillars and nshima before going to bed.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga in an interview with Mwebantu said the incident occurred between November 4th and 5th at around 20:00 hours and 06:00 hours respectively.
He said that Mr Mwansa aged 27 reported that his wife Bridget Musonda and two of his daughters Angel aged three and Mildred aged six months had been discovered dead.
Mr Hamoonga said prior to their demise, the three were in good health.
He said Mr Mwansa joined his family who had gone to bed around 20:00 hours in the Camping tent where they having been sleeping after their thatched house was set ablaze by unknown people on August 8,2023 at around 23:00 hours at the same village.
“It is allegedly that before going to bed , Bridget Musonda had prepared Nshima with “Kalembula” “Delele,” and”Ifishimu” (Caterpillars) when her husband was away. When he went back home from where he went to look for dry fish, he decided to prepare the meal for himself since he found the wife together with his two biological daughters already gone to bed.”
“He further narrated that after preparing his meal with the same fish ,he decided to wake his wife up so that they could eat together ,but she responded that she had stomach pains and that was how she failed to wake up,” he said.
Mr Hamoonga said ,later on, her husband joined the family in bed.
He said however, on November 5th, 2023, at around 06:00 hours, when he woke up, he found his family dead on the same bed.
“After discovering the sad development, he reported the matter to the Police and officers rushed to visit the scene where they found the three dead bodies laying down on bed whilst facing upwards ,inside a green camping tent.
Physical Inspection was conducted and found the body of Bridget Musonda with abdominal distention and no visible injuries were observed whilst on the other two bodies, faecal matter was observed,” he said.
Mr Hamoonga added that police are yet to conduct a postmortem examination on the bodies to determine the actual cause of death.
