When the forces charged with safeguarding public safety become instruments of political power, it blurs the lines between justice and partisanship. The idea that law enforcement is swayed by directives from the executive or party leaders as the case is now indicates a troubling alignment where the rule of law is subjugated to political agendas. This not only compromises their function but also jeopardizes the very fabric of democracy.

The country has also been exposed to disparities in judicial outcomes on similar cases committed. Two groups or individuals have committed identical crimes but face different consequences based primarily on their political affiliations which is a stark indicator of systemic inequality. This scenario breeds a culture of impunity for those connected to political elites, while individuals from less privileged backgrounds experience disproportionate punitive measures. Such a reality fosters resentment and undermines public confidence in the justice system.

When citizens become aware of the selective application of justice, trust in law enforcement agencies and the judiciary erodes significantly. A perception that certain individuals are above the law due to their political standing can lead to widespread cynicism and disengagement from civic participation. Citizens may begin to view the legal system not as a protector of rights, but as an extension of political power used to suppress dissent and maintain control. How else can we explain matters surrounding rampant arrests of opposition on trumped up seditious and hate speeches which cases have also been committed by those in power but have gone scot-free.

The ramifications of this selective justice extend beyond individual cases. It can stimulate social unrest, as marginalized communities or individuals who feel unjustly targeted may resort to protests or other forms of resistance. This environment of discontent can destabilize the society, leading to increased tension and conflict there by putting the security of our country in danger.

To restore faith in the security apparatus and the principles of justice, there ought to be a deliberate shift from pettiness when it comes to the independence of the three arms of government. Comprehensive reforms put in place should be adhered to by all. This includes establishing independent oversight bodies to monitor law enforcement conduct, implementing measures to ensure accountability, and fostering a culture of transparency within security institutions. Ensuring that law enforcement operates without political influence is critical to upholding justice and maintaining the rule of law.

In summary, the intersection of politics and law enforcement poses a significant threat to societal stability and justice. The call for an equitable legal system devoid of political bias is paramount to ensuring that safety and rights are guaranteed for all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations. The path toward restoring justice involves collective advocacy for reforms that champion fairness, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law.
