President Hakainde Hichilema has mourned the lives lost to flooding in Lusaka.

In a statement after touring some flooded areas in the City, the Head of State sympathized with those who have been displaced from their homes.

He however blamed the floods on decades of poor urban planning.

“This new challenge stems from decades of poor urban planning, which we must now face together,” he stated.

“We are committed to addressing this challenge even if it means making bold decisions. We are going to drain Lusaka and whoever has built on the drainage system will be relocated and compensated accordingly.”

He urged fellow political leaders to join the government, putting aside politics for the sake of the citizens.
