The Local Authority in Mazabuka has shut down five bars for non-payment of trading fees totaling to over K30 000.

A combined team of Council Officers and State Police Monday afternoon and evening swung into action, closing down shops and bars for failing to pay rentals to the authority.

And Mazabuka Municipal Council Public Relation Manager, Carol Simumba has disclosed that the five bars are in Urban Area and Magoye.

She says the bars are renting Council buildings and have not being paying rentals for over two years, adding that they will sale assets for the owners if they fail to pay outstanding bills.

Simumba has since warned business houses owing the local authority to clear their arrears, saying the Council will shut down their operations.
