Two Malawian businesswomen have been murdered by unknown people, who later partially buried their bodies in shallow graves, on the Zambia-Malawi border in Lundazi, Eastern province.
The bodies were discovered yesterday by some Malawian national, who had crossed into Zambia to collect firewood.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba has confirmed, identifying the deceased as of Linda Gondwe, aged 33, and Matildah Kaluba, aged 37.
Mr Mweemba says the two, from Jenda area in Kasungu and Mzimba districts in Malawi, were earlier reported missing by their relatives, after they were last seen on May 21, 2025.
He explained that Ms Gondwe and Ms Kaluba are believed to have come to Zambia to buy some maize and they were carrying 1.6 million Malawian kwacha, which is about 12,500 Zambian kwacha.
Mr Mweemba says after they failed to return home, relatives were forced to report them as missing to Jenda Police Station in Malawi.
He stated that the decomposed bodies, of Ms Gondwe and Ms Kaluba, had deep cuts in the head and on the throat.
Mr Mweemba says the bodies have been exhumed from the shallow graves and reburied at Jenda area in Malawi, as investigations develop.
