The trial involving former First Lady Esther Lungu is expected to continue today before the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court in a case where she is accused of theft involving three motor vehicles and a certificate of title for a residential property.
Mrs. Lungu is jointly charged with Kapemowa Lungu, Catherine Banda, and police officers James Phiri and Lee Chisulo for offences allegedly committed between August 2021 and September 2022.
The accused are alleged to have stolen a Mitsubishi Canter, a Toyota RunX, and a Toyota Allex, as well as a certificate of title for a Libala property valued at over K1 million.
However, Mrs. Lungu may not appear in court as she is currently mourning her husband in South Africa, former President Edgar Lungu, who died on June 5, 2025, and is yet to be buried.
