A 43-year-old pedestrian in Katete District of Eastern Province, has died in a hit-and-run incident.

Eastern Province Police Commissioner, Robertson Mweemba, has confirmed the development.

He stated that the incident occurred between July 19, 2025, at 18:50 hours, and July 20, 2025, at 05:00 hours, at Mbang’ombe Local Court, off the Great East Road.

Mr. Mweemba said Jacob Sakala, now the deceased, from Chazanga Village, Chief Mbang’ombe, died on the spot after being hit by an unknown motor vehicle under unknown circumstances.

He added that the motor vehicle is believed to be a Mercedes Benz truck, as a side view mirror, likely from the said vehicle, was found at the scene.

The victim sustained a deep cut on the head, bleeding from the ears, and a bruised left hand.

The body of the deceased has been deposited into St. Francis Mission Hospital mortuary, awaiting postmortem examinations and burial.

Mr. Mweemba said the case is under investigation.
