The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Arts and the National Sports Council of Zambia, has officially launched the Teachers Sports Association of Zambia (TESAZA), an initiative aimed at promoting health and wellness among educators nationwide.

Speaking at the launch, Ministry of Education Administration Director, Mr. Kelvin Chipalu, who represented the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kelvin Mambwe, emphasized that the association was created by teachers, for teachers, acknowledging the critical role educators play in shaping the nation’s future.

He highlighted that teachers are nation-builders, and for them to remain effective in classrooms, they must maintain both physical and mental well-being.

Mr. Chipalu explained that TESAZA is designed to encourage teachers and education officers to participate in regular, structured sporting activities. This, he noted, will help reduce preventable diseases, enhance productivity, and foster unity within the education sector.

He further stated that the initiative aligns with Zambia’s broader wellness agenda, which promotes long, healthy, and productive lives for all citizens.

Meanwhile, TESAZA President, Mr. Justine Kabungo, underscored the importance of health among educators, stressing that “a healthy teacher is a productive teacher, and a productive teacher builds a stronger Zambia.”

He urged teachers to lead by example and inspire learners by embracing active, healthy lifestyles.
