A Man believed to be in his late 40s has died in a hit-and-run incident in Katete District, Eastern Province.

According to Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba, the victim was allegedly knocked down by a motor vehicle while walking along the road.

The incident occurred between August 30, 2025, at an unknown time, and August 31, 2025, around 06:00 hours, near Mwaziputa Clinic in the Songwe area, about 8 kilometers east of Katete township along the Great East Road.

Mr. Mweemba stated that the victim sustained fatal head injuries and died on the spot.

The circumstances surrounding the accident are yet to be established, and the motor vehicle involved, as well as the driver, remain unknown.

The body of the deceased has been taken to St. Francis Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.

Mr. Mweemba confirmed that investigations into the matter have been initiated.
