Zambia’s Judiciary A Nepalese national has narrated in the Lusaka Magistrate Court how she came to Zambia to work as a dancer at a nightclub owned by an Indian national.

Asmita Kumal has testified that this was after she was engaged by Mohit Chala, an Indian national, who also facilitated travel documents for her.

Ms Kumal has testified before Chief Resident Magistrate, Davis Chibwili, that she was offered 7-hundred and 50 dollars as a salary.

She has, however, testified that no work permit was given but that she had a 3 months visiting Visa, stating that she came to Zambia in February 2025.

The witness was testifying in a matter where Chala, along with 2 other Indian nationals, Mabiar Mondal and Akshay Arora, are facing 8 counts of human trafficking and facilitating human trafficking.

Ms Kumal has since identified the Chala as the person who engaged her, and Mondal, as the person who was in charge of operations at the club.

Allegations in count one to four, are that Chala and Mondal, between January 1 and July 30, 2025, jointly engaged in trafficking of Ms Kumal, Sangita Budhathoki, Susmita Karki and Rina Shrastha.

In count five to eight it is alleged that Arora, between January 1, and July 30, 2025, jointly with other persons unknown facilitated the trafficking of Ms Kumal, Sangita Budhathoki, Susmita Karki And Rina Shrastha
