Items valued at over K116,500 were stolen during this year’s Kulamba Traditional Ceremony of the Chewa people of Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique.
According to Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba, the police managed to recover items worth K9,370.
Mr. Mweemba disclosed that, out of a total of 53 offenses recorded during the ceremony, 32 involved the theft of mobile phones and 8 were cases of assault, among other offenses.
He said police have since apprehended four suspects for various offenses, including drug trafficking.
Mr. Mweenba said the command has picked up some lessons from this year’s ceremony and will beef up manpower at the next Kulamba Ceremony, stressing the massive turnout at this year’s event.
