The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has revealed that additional funds linked to the corruption case involving former Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Malanji and former Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba remain unaccounted for.
DEC Director General Nason Banda stated that the Commission has intensified investigations into what he described as a complex web of financial crimes.
Mr. Banda disclosed that the ongoing investigations are expected to uncover more illicit assets and financial transactions, with the possibility of implicating additional high-profile individuals.
He made these remarks during a press briefing in Lusaka, following the conviction of Mr. Malanji and Mr. Yamba.
Mr. Banda described the convictions as a significant milestone in Zambia’s ongoing fight against transnational organized crime.
Mr. Malanji was convicted in a case involving the illegal acquisition of real estate, over $11 million, and two helicopters.
Mr. Yamba was convicted for willful failure to follow procedure.
