Councillor Simataa Advises Kamwala Landlords to Stop Selling Family Houses to Avoid Chronic Sewer Blockages – he writes

This is to notify all residents of New Kamwala that we’ve been advised not to use our toilets on 12 September 2025 (05:00hrs to 18:00hrs) due to the discovery of a very big stone that’s blocking a critical sewer-line.In addition, Luapula road will be closed-off to traffic to facilitate excavation works on the affected sewer-line.

The entire sewer-sludge has to be pumped out to expose the stone, meaning no flushing!

Also, to some directly affected, exercise patience. We work through institutions which are often under-staffed and under-equiped. Its not right to allege that the Councillor and MP don’t care and are doing nothing – I live in this community since 2010, and get affected as much, if not more, I go out of my way to spend money to speed-up works.

This crisis is caused by ourselves – firstly, we’re always selling our houses to developers who then demolish and rebuild bigger structures, sometimes on top of these sewer lines, and often without consultation or clearance from LCC or Lusaka Water.

Then we throw non-biodegradable objects in our toilet drains, diapers, sanitary towels, blankets and face-clothes – and if its not us, its our own children – we watch them remove man-hole covers and make a sport of throwing stones/objects in there!

And then when things get blocked, the finger points at the councillor, as if I personally sold the houses or threw stones in the sewer-line. Let’s take responsibility for our actions – let’s safeguard our sewer infrastructure.
