A career coach has shared why she withdrew her job application following an interview that did not meet her expectations.
Alice, who goes by the username @thetechychef on the social media platform X, stated that the issues began when the human resources manager criticised her for incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) in drafting her résumé.
She responded that there was nothing wrong with that, as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the company also used AI to make his LinkedIn posts. The woman explained that the CEO arrived 10 minutes late for the interview and sounded condescending throughout the session.
“An interview is a conversation! I’m also assessing you, so if you act inappropriately, I will withdraw my application. Over here, we’re not desperate,” she stated.
After the unpleasant experience, Alice drafted a letter to the hiring manager withdrawing her application for the role at the company.
She expressed her gratitude for being shortlisted for the interview but shared her deep regret in no longer being interested in joining the company.
“After careful consideration, I’ve decided not to move forward with your company, and there are two key reasons for this decision,” her letter read in part.
According to her, the interview starting later than the scheduled time was a concern as she wondered how the company managed its time and whether they respected candidates’ schedules.
Secondly, the CEO’s alleged condescending attitude made her question the culture and communication style within the team. “I value professionalism, mutual respect, and a collaborative environment, and unfortunately, my experience during the interview did not reflect these values. For this reason, I will be withdrawing my application. Thank you once again for the opportunity, and I wish your team success moving forward,” she stated.
