A 13-year-old Grade 4 pupil at Katete Primary School in Katete District of Eastern Province, has allegedly taken her own life by hanging herself under a mango tree.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred on October 16, 2025, between 08:00 hours and 11:00 hours in Soweto Compound.
Brief facts of the matter are that Felistus Zulu, returned home from the market at around 08:30 hours, where she was sent to buy vegetables.
She then left home with the intention of collecting firewood from the nearby fields but did not return home.
She was later discovered by a passerby hanging from a mango tree in a field near Achuche Ground in Soweto Compound at around 11:00 hours.
Police officers visited the scene and found her hanging using a sisal rope about 3 meters above the ground.
The body has since been deposited into St. Francis Hospital Mortuary, awaiting post-mortem examination results and burial.
