A 40-year-old man of Makeni A compound in Chama District of Eastern Province has allegedly taken his own life by consuming an unknown substance.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner, Robertson Mweemba, confirmed the incident, which occurred on October 18, 2025, New Houses Compound.
Brief facts of the matter, the deceased, Faston Banda, was married to Ndekazi, and the couple had been experiencing marital disputes.
He left home yesterday for a drinking spree and did not return.
Mr. Mweemba says Mr Banda was found in a drainage at New Houses Compound, and he was rushed to Chama District Hospital, where he died a few hours later.
The body has been deposited in Chama District Hospital mortuary, pending burial, as no foul play is suspected.
Mr. Mweemba stated that an inquiry has been opened into the matter.
