The Lusaka City Council (LCC) says it has completed the construction of a new maternity wing at Kabwata Clinic, funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for the 2023–2024 financial year, at a total of over K1.78 million.
The new facility is expected to improve access to quality maternal care for expectant mothers and newborns in Kabwata and surrounding areas.
“The aim is to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates by providing safe, accessible, and timely healthcare in a dedicated and well-equipped environment,” said LCC Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba in a statement issued ton RCV News today.
Ms. Mwamba said the maternity wing is also set to ease congestion at neighbouring health centres, allowing for more specialized and prompt care.
She said that development is a clear demonstration of the Council’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure in Lusaka.
meanwhile, Ms. Mwamba has commended Tecon Engineering Company Limited for completing the project in line with contract specifications and timelines.
She has further emphasized the Council’s commitment to working with credible contractors and delivering projects that address the critical needs of the community.
