A 24-year-old man in Chief Chifunda’s Chiefdom in Chama District of Eastern Province, has been attacked and killed by an elephant while fishing in the Luangwa River.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner, Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred on October 23, 2025, between 04: 30 hours and 08: 00 hours in Chikubi village.
Vincent Zimba, now deceased, went fishing in the Luangwa River with his friend Steward Nkhata on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
While fishing, the duo decided to cross to the other side of the river to continue their activities, where they encountered an elephant that suddenly attacked them.
Unfortunately, Vincent Zimba was killed in the attack, while his friend managed to escape and reported the incident to the community.
Mr Zimba was buried yesterday.
