The opposition Citizens First (CF) party has accused the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) of orchestrating a plan to destabilize the party through what it describes as sponsored defections and inducements.

In a statement issued by CF Secretary General Vincent Chintu, the party claimed it had received credible information pointing to a coordinated effort allegedly sanctioned and financed by State House. According to CF, the alleged scheme targets its provincial and district chairpersons nationwide, with the intention of weakening the party’s structures ahead of the 2026 general elections.

“The intent is to induce defections through monetary offers, false promises, and intimidation, followed by heavy coverage on state-controlled media to create the illusion of a crumbling opposition,” the statement read in part.

Mr. Chintu added that the party remains undeterred by the alleged attempts, saying such actions “only reinforce CF’s conviction that it is the true alternative and government-in-waiting.”

The statement further urged CF members to remain vigilant and resist any efforts to “buy their loyalty,” emphasizing that the party is built on principles rather than personal gain.

The UPND has not yet issued a response to the allegations.
