The training facility, which has been stocked with the requisite tools and equipment required for effective and appropriate training of staff at the hospital, has been constructed with support from Solidarmed.

It is the fourth of six planned centres to be completed by next year.

Eastern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Lewis Mwape, who spoke on behalf of the Provincial Minister Peter Phiri, said the centre is important as it will help the ministry to have appropriately skilled workers.

Dr. Mwape stated that the government’s intention is not only to improve infrastructure in health facilities but also to ensure that it develops human capital.

Solidarmed Country Director Kupela Clarke said building training facilities near hospitals means building stronger relationships between the clinical practice, where healing happens, and the clinical educational space, where learning happens.

Meanwhile, Chipata Central Hospital Senior Medical Superintendent Mbinga Mbinga said the hospital is pleased with the development and that the institution currently has MOUs with about five public institutions and six private institutions for students to conduct practical skills learning at the hospital.

And Provincial Health Director Mathews Ng’ambi has commended the government, through cooperating partners like Solidarmed, for the support it is offering to the health sector in the province and the country at large.
