A police officer has allegedly taken his own life while on duty in Mufulira on the Copperbelt.
Eric Ikowa, who was attached to the Mopani Copper Mines Mufulira Plant, is suspected to have caused his own death while on night duty.
Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer, Pethias Siandenge, has confirmed the incident, saying it is believed to have occurred between Saturday, 15 November 2025, and the following day.
Mr. Siandenge explained that IKOWA’s body was discovered by his colleague at 06:00 hours on Sunday, 16 November 2025.
He said the body was found lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to the head, and the matter was immediately reported to Kantanshi Police Station.
Mr. Siandenge noted that although police suspect he may have caused his own death, the possible motive has not yet been established.
