(ZANIS) A 43-year-old truck driver has been apprehended in Mansa, Luapula province, for allegedly raping an 18-year-old juvenile to whom he had offered a lift in his vehicle.
The incident is believed to have happened between 22:00 hours on Thursday, November 13, 2025 and 05:00 hours on Friday, November 14, 2025.
Luapula Province Police Commanding Officer MWALA YUYI has confirmed the incident, identifying the suspect as FLADY MWAPE of Lusaka’s 15 Miles area.
Mr YUYI explained that MWAPE offered the victim a lift from Luwingu, informing her that he would pass through Kawambwa to deliver fertiliser before proceeding to Luwingu later.
He stated that the victim accepted the lift, and the two travelled to Kawambwa, where they arrived around 22:00 hours and spent the night as it was late.
Mr. YUYI added that it was in Kawambwa where the MWAPE took advantage of the victim and raped her twice the same night of November 13 and the following morning.
He said the victim later reported the matter to police upon arrival in Mansa.
