Minister of Finance and National Planning Situmbeko Musokotwane said problems in the road sector are because finance laws were disregarded in the past 10 years,

Dr Musokotwane said the previous administration awarded contracts to projects where money was not planned for, which has resulted in many abandoned projects.

“The Treasury was overrun and the end result is chaos and the country is indebted.

If there is any sector that has contributed to the country’s problems, it is the road sector.

He said this at a Parliamentary Committee which recommended that the money collected from the country’s 37 toll gates be exclusively used to construct, rehabilitate and carry out maintenance works in the road sector.
