TO SEND a warning against abusive wives, a woman of Lusaka’s Chawama has been jailed for six months after pouring hot water on her husband’s private parts after an altercation.

The victim, to be called Mr T, wanted to withdraw the assault case but Lusaka magistrate Amy Chilangwa refused.

This is in a case 37-year-old Agness Banda was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, committed on October 29, 2025.

When she first appeared in court, the housewife admitted assaulting her 47-year-old husband.

Mr T later informed the court that he had forgiven his wife and wished for withdrawal of the matter, which was being heard during the commemoration of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence.

But the court ruled that the matter proceeds into reading of facts and sentencing.

Facts read by prosecutor Brian Sianyengo were that on the material day, Mr T was at home with his friends drinking beer, while his wife was cooking food for the family.

Around 21:00 hours, a tired Mr T retired to bed since he had work the following day.

“No sooner had he lain on his bed than the wife came to inform him that food was ready, but he declined and informed the accused that he would eat the following morning before going for work.”

An infuriated Banda went outside and returned a few minutes, armed with an iron bar and started hitting her spouse in the head and legs.

“He managed to defend himself despite being drunk and stopped the accused from hitting him and grabbed the iron bar.

“Thinking it was over, the victim slept, only to come back with a pot of hot water and poured on the husband’s private parts,” Mr Sianyengo said.

The victim sustained serious burns on the lower abdomen, inner parts, thighs and the male organ.
