Charles Bwato, a nurse, reportedly took his own life for unknown reasons after making his final post on Facebook hours earlier.
While some initially thought he was joking, others urged anyone close to him to reach out and check on his wellbeing. Sadly, help did not come in time: the young nurse moved faster than their concerns and took himself on a journey to meet his maker.
News of his death has left many who knew him in shock. Friends, colleagues and community members later returned to his Facebook page, posting messages of grief, regret and disbelief.
Some reflected on the pressures people carry silently, while others wished he had found someone to talk to before things reached this point.
Others said he had made a terrible mistake because he should have thought about his mother.
“Mental health is real,” said one of his friends, while another said “Bwato, why? Walufyanya.”
Bwato’s death has renewed calls for increased awareness and support for mental health and emotional wellbeing among young people.
