Health Minister Alex Katakwe says significant progress has been made to modernize the water and sanitation system at the University Teaching Hospitals -UTH- in Lusaka.

Dr Katakwe says following the Government’s release of 69 million Kwacha, extensive work has been undertaken to reroute and replace aging water pipes throughout the facility.

The Minister says the critical infrastructure project aims to ensure a consistent and reliable flow of water, a vital component for the hospital’s daily operations and patient care.

Speaking in an interview with ZNBC News, Dr Katakwe said the rerouting of underground pipes is complete with the next step involving laying of new pipes which will be connected to a new water source.

He said the new pipe network is expected to eliminate issues of water depletion and ensure a resilient water system for the University Teaching Hospital.

Dr Katakwe adds that a temporary water supply is currently being maintained by filling two new water tanks alongside two existing ones which has significantly increased storage capacity to over 40,000 liters.
