A 41-year-old Zambia Air Force (ZAF) flight sergeant has been found guilty of sexually abusing his 14-year-old biological daughter after the court held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Lusaka magistrates’ Court ruled that DNA results, excluding the accused as the biological father of a baby allegedly conceived from the sexual assault did not exonerate him.
The court accepted the evidence of a forensic expert, who testified that not every act of sexual intercourse results in pregnancy.
It held that the DNA findings did not disprove the allegation of incest.
The court further found no evidence to suggest that the child had falsely implicated her father.
The charge of incest carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years.
He has been committed to the High Court for sentencing.
