Health Minister Sylvia Masebo has challenged Zambian medical doctors to be exemplary and trendsetters in their profession.

Ms Masebo bemoaned the decreasing admiration of the medical profession.

The Minister urged doctors to retake their pole position as a noble member of society.

She said medics have from time immemorial been exemplary and trendsetters.

The minister reiterated government policy on decentralization, explaining that going forward, some central level functions would be taken to provincial and district levels with matching financial, material and human resources.

Ms Masebo has also challenged doctors to look into their welfare as the number of mortality among medical doctors was of concern especially during COVID-19.

She said this when she officiated at the 58th Annual General Meeting for Zambia Medical Association (ZMA)

And the ZMA President Chrispin Moyo has applauded the government for successful recruitment of health workers including 510 medical doctors.

Dr Moyo has further called on the government to create a more enabling environment to support entrepreneurship in health.
