Personnel across all three Services will begin to recieve the new Glock 17s in the coming weeks and troops deployed to Afghanistan will be among the first to use the new weapon. The Glock pistol will replace the Browning which after being used by the Armed Forces for more than 40 years.

A 56-year-old retired soldier of Kabwe has shot and wounded another man of Kapiri Mposhi at a drinking place over an unpaid debt.

Hamakwebo Bwana, of house number 175 New Ngungu township, shot Mathews Lupekesa, 36, of Mukonchi in Kapiri Mposhi around 01:25 hours yesterday.

Central Province police commanding officer Chileshe Mukuka said Mr Lupekesa reported Bwana to the police.

“He was shot at on his right leg by Mr Hamakwebo who is a former soldier from Kohima Barracks,” he said.

“The shooting is as a result of a dispute over some unpaid debt . This is contained in a report published by Zambia Daily mail.
