Three people have been been admitted to Senanga General Hospital after a suspected hand grenade exploded on them.

Police deputy public relations officer Danny Mwale stated that the grenade was in the hands of one of the victims.

Mr Mwale stated that the incident occurred around 14: 50 hours yesterday at Sikota Village in Senanga District when a metallic device exploded in the hands of Kakoma Chiyuka aged 35.

He stated that the other two victims were identified as Kwibisa Kwibisa aged 42 and Malilo Malilo aged 17 all of Senanga District.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that on June 6, 2022 at around 12:30 hours at Sikota Village, Kakoma Chiyuka was at his house when he allegedly found an unknown metallic device behind his house and subsequently picked it.

Thereafter, he went with it into his yard, sat on a bench and started playing with it. Later, he was visited by his uncle identified as Kwibisa Kwibisa and his Nephew identified as Malilo Malilo who as well sat on the same bench and started admiring the device,” Mr Mwale stated.

He stated that all the three exchanged in holding and admiring the device but when it was handed back to Kakoma, it exploded injuring all the three.

“Police and Zambia Army Officers rushed to the scene and picked small metallic fragments suspected to have been for the same exploded device.

The victims are all admitted to Senanga General Hospital. An inquiry file has been opened into the matter,” Mr Mwale stated.
